Be sure not to miss this comprehensive learning session focusing on the proper and legal handling of hazardous materials.  Course Materials and successful passage of a brief written exam following the course will qualify as certification for hazmat handlers.

All attendees will receive:  Current Hazmat Regulation Book, current ERG, DOT 16 chart, Certificate of attendance.

This course is taught by Tom Forbes, Hazardous Materials Specialist with the PUCO.  Tom is a North American Certified Inspector in Level 1 driver and vehicle inspections, hazardous materials, cargo tank and other bulk packages, and Level VI radioactive inspections.  He was formerly employed with the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s office in the Hazardous Materials Bureau and responded to transportation emergencies.  He also spent 14 years in the private sector for an environmental consulting firm that managed and shipped hazardous materials and waste.

Here's how your day will go:

7:30 a.m. - Registration

8:00 a.m. - Workshop Overview

8:15 a.m. - How to Use the HMR- Review how to locate specific HM information in the Hazardous Materials Regulations like Hazmat Materials Table, mode restrictions, proper shipping name, hazard class, division number, ID number, packing group, packaging, and more.

9:30 a.m. - Training Requirements - Discussion of hazmat employer and employee training requirements in 49 CFR 172.700.

10:45 a.m. - Packaging Selection, Marking & Labeling- Learn how to select the proper package, properly mark the package, and label the package.

11:45 a.m. - Lunch (provided)


1:00 p.m. - Shipping Papers and Emergency Response Information- Learn how to properly describe a hazardous material on a shipping paper, including additional descriptions and emergency response information.

2:15 p.m. - Placarding Requirements- Learn how to determine the required placarding when offering and/or transporting hazardous materials.

3:00 p.m. - Security Requirements- Provides an understanding of the security threat, an overview of the specific requirements of HM-232, and suggestions and guidance on how to comply with the regulations.

4:00 p.m. - Wrap-up - questions and answers, and a brief written exam that will re-certify those who pass in the handling of hazardous materials according to federal rules.

CANCELLATIONS:  All registrations are due in by 5 pm on Tuesday, February 13, 2018. Any cancellations or no-shows occurring after 5 pm two business days prior to the meeting (2/23/2018) will forfeit pre-paid fees. If you need to cancel your registration, please do so before Friday, February 23, 2018 to obtain a refund.
